Corbelli Selected for Head Coach of U.S. Junior

May 29, 2022

COLLEGE STATION, Texas-for the second year in a row, Texas A&M volleyball head coach and former Olympian Laurie Corbelli has been selected to be the head coach of the U.S. junior women’s national team, USA Volleyball announced.

“It’s a huge honor for me every time I represent the United States,” Corbelli said. “It brings back a lot of memories. My heart is full when I stand next to others who represent the United States and sing the national anthem. It always gives me goosebumps, and I’m really, really honored and proud.”

Corbelli, who has long been associated with U.S. volleyball since competing for the U.S. women’s national team from 1978 to 1984 and after winning a silver medal as a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic team, led the junior national team to a silver medal at the NORCECA U20 Women’s Continental Championship last year in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“To be chosen to lead the group again is exciting and a great opportunity for me,” Corbelli said. “I am always looking for ways to grow as a coach, and to be with other coaches and the quality of athletes who advance to the junior national level is an opportunity to learn and grow.

I never want to stop learning and getting new ideas and new ways of doing things. I really enjoy doing this and bringing it back to Texas A&M volleyball.”

Corbelli, who is starting her 25th season as the Aggies ‘ head coach, will coach the 16-player U.S. Junior Women’s National Training Team (WJNTT) on July 2 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She will have 12 players selected from this group to participate in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship, from 14 to 23 July, in Boca del Rio and Cordoba, Mexico.

The United States qualified for the World Cup by winning gold last month at the 2017 Women’s Pan American Cup in San Jose, Costa Rica. Nine players from this team are on the WJNTT.

Blake Rawlins, the head coach of the top Select Volleyball Academy, will be Corbelli’s assistant coach, and Tom Pingel, senior Director of high performance and events, will be the team leader.
