COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Kentucky volleyball stars Kaz Brown and Ashley Dusek are donning red, white and blue for the second time in a row. Brown and Dusek were two of the 12 players chosen to represent the U.S. women’s collegiate national team on the May 19-30 tour of Thailand, USA Volleyball announced Monday.
“This opportunity for Ashley and Kaz is fantastic,” said UK head coach Craig Skinner. “They will compete alongside the best college players in the United States. There will be a ton of pride in them as they represent our country action international teams.”
The match schedule includes matches against the Thailand national team, the Thailand under-23 team and Bangkok Glass, the top team in the Thai professional league. The CNT-Thailand team will also play against two other teams yet to be confirmed. The team’s training and competition matches take place at the FIVB Development Centre in Bangkok, one of only four centres in Asia.
The athletes were selected to the U.S. women’s national Team free trials held March 3-5 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. The tryout was attended by 244 players from 81 high schools and 10 high schools.
Brown won his second all-Region award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association and a nod to the All-Southeastern Conference after a phenomenal season. The Waterloo, Iowa native finished third in the SEC and 16th in the country in blocks per set at 1.42. His 151 blocks were the second most by a British player during the 25-point rally era, behind only his mark of 180 set in 2015.
The middle blocker from the United Kingdom took part in the US collegiate national team that traveled to China a season ago and successfully completed a two-week tour.
Dusek repeated as the SEC’s libero of the year and again won All-America honors. Dusek became the fifth player under Skinner to total 1,000 or more career digs when she achieved the feat this season.
The East Bernard, Texas native participated in the National Collegiate Team-Indianapolis training program last summer and led her team to the tournament finals.
Other players under Skinner who have participated in the American volleyball program include Morgan Bergren, Whitney Billings, Ashley Frazier, Stephanie Klefot, Alexandra Morgan, Jackie Napper, and Sarah Rumely.
